FIPS Certifications

Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Certifications

Akeyless provides cryptographic module certifications under National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards through the Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP).

FIPS 140-3

FIPS 140-3 is the current U.S. and Canadian government standard for cryptographic modules that protect sensitive information. Under CMVP, accredited laboratories test modules against these requirements, and validated modules are published with a certificate number and status.

FIPS 140-2

FIPS 140-2 is the previous CMVP cryptographic module standard. Many environments still reference FIPS 140-2 validated modules during migration to FIPS 140-3.

FIPS 140-3 Versus FIPS 140-2

FIPS 140-3 supersedes FIPS 140-2 for new validations, but a FIPS 140-2 validation is not automatically a FIPS 140-3 validation. Each certificate is evaluated and issued under its specific standard version.

For transition guidance and validation status details, refer to CMVP resources and the certificate status shown on each NIST certificate page.
